| Media Café offers a range of resources
helping people with employability, whether it be for unemployed
people trying to find a job or become self-employed, or for people
in employment looking to secure their employability through keeping
their employable ICT skills up to date.
In some cases, interventions and services to help particular groups
of people may be specific to particular projects. However, there
are a range of general services and resources that are open to all
members. These include:
Drop-In Services
- Drop-in access to ICT such as computers and printers to prepare
application forms and CVs
- Drop-in access to high-speed Internet accessible ICT to search
and apply for work online
- On-site staff who can advise you about looking for work online
- Referral to specialist services that can advise or help you
with other skills that may improve your ability to find, secure
or maintain work such as training providers and employment brokerage
services
- For eligible individuals who may require more advanced support
-such as help with CV layout- members can arrange a time to see
a designated worker through the drop-in service
Sectoral IAG
Media Café provides a specific Information, Advice and Guidance
service for members seeking employment, self-employment or increased
employment in the ICT and New Media sectors. Whilst this service
prioritises local entrants to the sector, it is not limited to unemployed
people and, given the specialism and expertise of the project, is
likely to benefit many freelance new media practitioners. Amongst
other things we can do :
- Assess your skills level and advise you on your training needs
and your current level of employability
- Give you information on online and other resources available
to people seeking work in these sectors
- Advise you on the range of training and employment routes open
to you based on your current needs and how these may fit with
your aspirations
- Refer you to appropriate training and employment agencies and
support you in accessing "high end" training where appropriate
- Give you information and advise on issue relating to self-employment
within the sector
Since the sectoral IAG is an in-depth service, it is important
for potential users to note that, although, you may be able to access
some of the IAG services through dropping in, you will be asked
to agree a time at which the most appropriate member of staff can
see you
